This time last year, in the midst of hurried Christmas and New Years preparations, Heather and I were frantically adding the final touches to what would become a project that would change our lives as we knew them. It was a project that would give a new definition to the word ‘photography’ as we had experienced it up to that point. It was a project that would open doors to new people, places and possibilities.
That project was Mirrorlessons, which is celebrating its first birthday today! And by pure coincidence, it’s Heather’s birthday as well. Happy 29th!
Throughout 2013, we have been blessed with so many unforgettable experiences. We travelled to Venice with the Fuji sisters, the X100s and X20, explored the wilderness of Wales with the Olympus Pen E-P5 and the Sony RX100M2, attended a Fujifilm press conference for the X-M1, received a generous invitation to test the new OM-D E-M1 in Ireland from Olympus Europe, and attended our first photography show as Mirrorlessons in Milan.
Even the simple things such as friendly banter with fellow photographers and bloggers on social networks like Twitter and Facebook made this year truly memorable.
It was also the year when I finally decided to drop my Nikon D90 and D700 in favour of the Olympus OM-D E-M5 and Fujifilm X100s for all my professional photography assignments. Though my Nikons sat locked away in my closet for quite some time, I eventually mustered the courage to find them a new home, and have never looked back.
When we first started this blog, we really didn’t know what to expect. We knew we’d be reviewing camera gear, yes, but we had no idea of the warmth and camaraderie we’d find in the mirrorless photography community online. In fact, some of these online friendships have even shifted offline, which for us as bloggers, is one of the greatest satisfactions and successes of this blog.
Of course the road hasn’t always been easy. While passion is the fuel that drives any blog, it cannot take precedence over real-life priorities. Sometimes we find ourselves caught up in our day jobs or family obligations, and Mirrorlessons has to take second place. But, as you know, we always strive to do our best!
In honour of our first year anniversary and the closing of another year, we have chosen to launch the Mirrorlessons Flickr Pool where our followers can share their photos.
The idea was first suggested to us by Angga on Facebook (thanks!) and we’re excited to see it come to fruition.
To join the group, all you have to do is:
- Visit Mirrorlessons Flickr Pool
- Accept the group rules
- And start posting your best photos taken with a mirrorless camera!
To launch the pool, we have included the photos which were the most significant for us in 2013. Now it’s your turn to make the pool grow and flourish!
We hope to see you there!
