When you switch from one system to another, it is necessary to consider not only the camera body and sensor, but also the lenses. Actually, lenses have always been more important to me than anything else because they represent the primary tool that will produce a visible change in your pictures – more than pixels, noise or dynamic range. They are also the tools that will determine my composition and how I approach a work session. [Read more…] about The best compact & professional telephoto zoom for MFT: A Lumix 35-100mm f/2.8 review

A First Look at the Panasonic Lumix GX7 in Bristol
Update: Check out our high ISO comparison between the GX7 and Pen E-P5!
My heart leapt last Friday evening when I logged onto Twitter: the word was that Panasonic had decided to hold a last minute UK tour featuring the Lumix GX7. Every weekend in seven locations across the nation, the new camera would be on display to try, test and pre-order, and it just so happened that we would be passing through one of these locations – the great port city of Bristol – on our way back from Dorchester.

In-Depth Review of the Panasonic GH3 for Video: Episode 1 – Chaos&Cosmos
N.B.: only two images aren’t shot with the GH3 in the video below. There are actually JPGs of paintings inserted into the video (min 1.36 and 2.09).
My first experience with large sensor cameras didn’t start with HDSLRs unlike many of my colleagues in the filmmaking industry. Rather, it began with Micro Four-Thirds and the Panasonic AF101. At the time, it was the only alternative to DSLRs. I still use that camera for my work because it has all the proper features you’d want from a professional camcorder: XLR inputs, ND filters, and so on. But now the AF101’s sensor is old (the same as the GH1), and Panasonic doesn’t seem to be planning any substantial updates for this camera at the moment.

From Milan to Turin: Panasonic GH3 Full Review
UPDATE: our in-depth review of the GH3 for video is online!
I’ll be honest, I have always followed the GH series more for its video capabilities than for its photographic features. I have never tested the GH1 or GH2 for photography, so I thought it was time to remediate by taking a deep look at the Panasonic Lumix GH3, which is the latest and most advanced mirrorless camera Panasonic has ever designed.

A quick night video test with the Panasonic GH3
UPDATE: our in-depth review of the GH3 for video is online!
Last week, we did a very quick video test with the new Panasonic GH3. We shot for one hour or so in Turin before going to get something to eat.
I was very excited to test the quality the GH3 as several professionals claim that it can easily compete with high-end HDSLRs such as the Canon 5D mkIII. I currently own a Panasonic AF101 for my work in video, which has the same four-year-old sensor as the GH1, and I saw the capabilities of the GH2 last year. The GH3 has very interesting new features, such as a clean HDMI output and an ALL-I 72 mbps codec, which is supposed to give better results than AVCHD.
